- Durable
- Low maintenance
- Long lifespan
- Heat and stain resistant
- Affordable
- Does not chip or crack
- Easy to disinfect (a hygienic choice)
- It’s eco-friendly and can be recycled
Cons:
- Prone to water spots without the right upkeep
- Limited colour options
- Possibility of scratches and dents
Do stainless steel sinks scratch?
Stainless steel sinks might be able to resist chipping and cracking, but they easily become scratched through everyday use and may start to show water spots.
To keep your stainless steel sink looking its best for as long as possible, take time to care for it properly.
Wiping your washroom equipment down – both at the end of the day and in between uses – will stop it from looking dingy. Ensuring you don’t drop things in the sink (i.e. cutlery, pans, cups, baking tins, etc) will also help to reduce noise and increase the longevity of your equipment.
When cleaning your stainless steel sink, avoid using abrasive cloths, wire brushes and steel wool, as these will scratch the surface. And carefully read the label on cleaning detergents to ensure they’re suitable for stainless steel.
How do you clean a stainless steel sink?
Cleaning a stainless steel sink is essential if you’re to keep it looking good and prevent the formation of water spots. And you’ll be pleased to hear that the process isn’t too difficult.
We recommend wiping the basin and taps down with a damp sponge regularly, before buffing it dry. On top of this, you should aim to thoroughly clean your stainless steel sink at least once a week to keep it looking at its best.
Some cleaning agents contain chloride, and using too much could cause corrosion. So, if you’re planning to use these types of cleaners, make sure you rinse the sink immediately after applying them.
Although there are various cleaning products available, you can use common household products, such as baking soda.
To make sure you don’t scratch your stainless steel sink, use a non-abrasive cloth or sponge. Even if you spot stubborn deposits on the surface, we’d always advise against using a scouring pad.
When cleaning stainless steel, try and work with the grain, rather than against it. This will help to eliminate scratches and water spots.
